The Greenport Service is the diesel extension of the Ronkonkoma Branch along the North Fork, from Ronkonkoma through Medford, Yaphank, Riverhead, Mattituck and Southold to Greenport.
Only a handful of trains run each day and they are timed to connect with electric trains at Ronkonkoma, so most journeys to or from the city involve a change there. The stations east of Ronkonkoma sit in the outermost fare zones, 12 and 14, which is why fares to Manhattan from this stretch are among the highest on the railroad. Service is heavier in summer.
