The Montclair-Boonton Line runs from Hoboken and New York Penn Station through Newark Broad Street, then north-west through Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Bay Street Montclair and Montclair State University, and on through Boonton and Denville to Dover or Hackettstown.
Electrification ends at Montclair State University. Trains from Manhattan and most trains from Hoboken turn back there; service beyond is diesel and much thinner, with some trains west of Denville shared with the Morris & Essex Line. Midtown Direct trains to New York Penn run on weekdays only.
