The Hudson Line follows the east bank of the Hudson River from Grand Central through Harlem-125th Street, Yonkers, Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon to Poughkeepsie.
Electric third rail runs as far as Croton-Harmon; north of there trains use dual-mode locomotives and the line is shared with Amtrak. Croton-Harmon is the change point between the frequent inner electric service and the longer-distance trains, and many express trains make their first stop there. The river views from the left-hand side heading north are the reason it is the line most people photograph.
