About this line

The Far Rockaway Branch leaves the main line at Valley Stream and runs south-west through Gibson, Hewlett, Woodmere, Cedarhurst, Lawrence and Inwood to Far Rockaway, on the Queens side of the Nassau border.
It is electrified, so trains run through to the city terminals, and it shares its inner stretch with the Long Beach and West Hempstead branches between Valley Stream and Jamaica. Far Rockaway is also the end of the A subway line, which makes it one of the few places a subway and an LIRR branch meet outside Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn.
