PATH is the small fourth network on this site: 13 stations linking Newark, Harrison, Jersey City and Hoboken with Lower Manhattan and Sixth Avenue. Its fares are the simplest of all.
One flat fare
PATH charges one fare for any ride, whatever the distance and however many lines you use. A one-stop hop costs the same as the full run from Newark to 33rd Street. The fare shown on every PATH trip page is that flat fare, read from the PATH schedule feed.
The fare in the current PATH feed is $3.00 per ride.
Paying at the turnstile
You pay when you enter, with a PATH SmartLink card, a contactless bank card or phone through TAPP, or a pay-per-ride MetroCard. Unlimited-ride MetroCards are not accepted, and OMNY, the New York City Subway's tap system, is a separate system from TAPP. Multi-trip bundles loaded onto a SmartLink card lower the per-ride price for regular riders, and seniors ride at a reduced fare with a Senior SmartLink card.
Transfers
Changing between PATH lines at Journal Square, Grove Street, Hoboken or Exchange Place happens inside the paid area, so a journey that needs a change is still one fare. Changing to the New York City Subway at World Trade Center or along Sixth Avenue, to NJ Transit at Newark Penn Station or Hoboken, or to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, is a separate fare on that system.
Which service runs when
PATH runs different service patterns by time of day, and the line name on a trip page tells you which one the times belong to.
- Newark to World Trade Center runs at all times.
- Journal Square to 33rd Street and Hoboken to 33rd Street run on weekdays.
- Hoboken to World Trade Center runs on weekdays.
- Journal Square to 33rd Street via Hoboken runs on weeknights and at weekends, replacing the two weekday 33rd Street services.
The trip pages count trains on a representative weekday, Saturday and Sunday, so a pair served only by a weekday line shows zero weekend trains on that line even though the via-Hoboken service covers the same stations. Check the PATH network page for the lines and stations.

There is no peak price, no zone and no distance charge, so a one-stop hop from Exchange Place to World Trade Center costs the same as Newark to 33rd Street. That is why the trip pages on this site show one fare for every PATH pair.
